The 2016 racing diary has been quite congested this year with 29 events scheduled and, in order to facilitate choice for racers and clubs alike, we have taken the decision to publish our 2017 dates as early as possible to enable people to plan ahead.
Our 2017 Championships dates for your diary are:
April 30th
June 18th
August 13th
October 1st
We will announce the format (ie distance and discipline) at a later date.
Choosing dates for the WCRA Championships isn’t just a matter of finding dates that are viable for committee members, we also take into account the Clubs that run on the same track (New Maidstone) or in the region (ie. Harvel and East Anglia) so that two Championships are on one “fortnight” and two on the other.
We will also publish these dates on our Facebook page and in the Whippet News magazine in the sincere hope this will ensure visibility for as many people as possible.
Hi
I live in Cheshire. I would like to watch some whippet dog racing. Do you know where is nearest to me? I would like to take my children with me if I am allowed, ages 12 & 13. Any information appreciated. Thankyou Kerry
Hi Kerry,
For a WCRA club, the closest to you would be the Heart of England. You can use the map on the Affiliated Clubs page to see if that’s near enough.
Other than that, there are non-pedigree clubs up and down the country and also other pedigree racing clubs in Yorkshire and the North West. I’m afraid I don’t know all of the non-pedigree clubs, but if you are on Facebook, there are two countrywide racing groups that most members frequent.
I’m sure you would be most welcome, and there are often children at the racing with their parents and dogs.
This is the affiliated clubs page (with map)
