Many thanks to The Whippet Club for asking me to judge Dogs at very short notice. I hope that Jo is well on the way to recovering from Covid.
It was a pleasure to judge with my co judge Henrik Harling and there was no hesitation in our joint decisions for the major awards.
BIS, the bitch, CRÈME ANGLAISE’S IRISH CREAM, RBIS & BOS, the dog RICHCLASS RUN FOR COVER, BPIS the dog CRÈME ANGLAISE’S JUST JULIAN and BV the dog, CH DANLUKE LORD OF THE DANCE.
SV (7-9) 8 4ab
- Johnston’s CH DANLUKE LORD OF THE DANCE, in super condition of both coat & muscletone. He moved with freedom of stride both in profile & coming & going. He is well balanced throughout & covers the ground when free stood.
- Wood’s ARDENCOTE STAR GAZER, lovely head & expression, correct angles both fore & rear. Moved soundly to & fro. Slightly shorter in body length than winner.
- Rishworth’s COLLOONEY TAYLOR MADE
SV (10yrs +) 2 1ab
- Whitehead/Smith/Mixides’ CH CITYCROFT STAR GAZING OVER YIALOUSA JW, what a credit to his owners. His well balanced angles enabled him to move soundly & with the daisy cutting action a Whippet should possess.
MPD 9 2ab
- Akerboom/Van Der Schaff’s CRÈME ANGLAISE’S JUST JULIAN, how nice to see a correctly proportioned puppy with good substance but not coarse, well laid shoulder & return of UA, enough depth & fill of chest, well ribbed & good length of loin. Super strength to rear angles which resulted in correct use of rear for forward propulsion. BPD & BPIS
- Wheeler’s RANVELI DIKI DIKI, another well constructed puppy with correct angulation both fore & aft. I liked his top & underline both stood & on the move. He made good use of his short hocks in profile. He was unlucky to meet winner today.
- Fryer’s DREAMJET ROCK THE BOAT AT STONEFOX
PD 11 3ab
- Dillon’s COLLOONEY EAT MY SHORTS AT RUNFOREST, beautifully schooled & well presented he flowed round the ring in profile, covering the ground with ease. Pleasing head & length of neck into good length of rib & loin.
- Bunney’s BUNEHUG BELIEVE IT OR NOT, a very raw puppy who is well constructed with good strength of bone but in no way overdone. Him & his handler both need some ring practice & with that he will present a good example of the breed.
- Arkell’s FANTASTIC FRED
JD 14 4ab
- Marston-Pollock’s BARNESMORE CLOAK OF SPIRITS AT FALCONCRAG, balanced throughout with pleasing angles. He stands on good feet with correct spring to pasterns. Liked his body mass & muscle to upper thigh.
- Manners/Mcdonald’s DEJARE OFFICIAL SECRET AT SOLENTWAVES naf taf, good body to bone ratio, pleasing top & underline. Moved with enough reach & drive but felt that he could have been a little more enthusiastic
- Wilton-Clark’s SHALFLEET CHASING THE WIND
YD 13 2ab
- Howgate/Hull’s PALMIK KING ARTHUR JW, a lovely example of the breed with everything in moderation. His movement is sound to & fro and he uses his balanced rear angles well for propulsion when moving in profile. It was good to see some width to 1st & 2nd thigh.
- Bell’s AARMINIAS CHANGE THE GAME AT DRUMBURN, pleasing body shape enhanced by well angulated shoulder which provided good reach in profile movement.
- Wilton-Clark’s SHALFLEET MAKING WAVES
MD 7 1ab
- Dillon’s DREAMJET FLOAT MY BOAT AT RUNFOREST, his free & easy movement can only be attributed to his correct balance and angles. In super coat which enhanced his body mass, lovely strength of bone & super knuckled oval feet RBPD.
- Manners/Mcdonald’s PENBRIAR JET SETTER TO SOLENTWAVES naf sound to & fro, well placed shoulder & return, good depth of chest, muscular loin & rear, however he didn’t use these features to his advantage when moving in profile.
- Arkell’s SWISTIR BAILEYS CREAM
ND 11
- Lewis’ LUCKHURST RAINBOW WARRIOR, won this class on his overall body shape. He has good muscle tone & is in good coat. Pleasing length of neck into well laid shoulder.
- Bingham’s LOLANI JAZZED UP, another with pleasing body shape, well balanced & moved soundly. Just a little on the feminine side for me.
- Bunney’s BUNEHUG BELIEVE IT OR NOT
UGD 7 1ab
- Dillon’s COLLOONEY EAT MY SHORTS AT RUNFOREST
- Webber’s DENIMBLUE WILLDO, pleasing depth of chest with well balanced angles , he moved soundly to & fro using his well let down hock to advantage. His frame is a little on the big side for me.
- Parkes/McKay’s CROSSCOP BORN TO MOVE FOR JUBRANCY
PGD 16 4ab
- Daniels/Bridgeman-Lewis’ ELMANASH GLENBURGIE, in lovely proportions, good strength of bone to body mass, he has a pleasing head onto correct length neck which is set into well laid shoulder. Good top & underline complemented by strength to rear angles.
- Bingham’s WRENNALLA STEEL, good head & expression well balanced throughout with pleasing rise over muscled loin.
- Martin’s BOWDONIA GO THE DISTANCE FOR STALWART
MLD 12
- Yeates/Winter’s LOLANI CAFÉ AMORE, this male looked the part when he went round the ring, full of showmanship he moved fluidly & with ease. He is well balanced throughout & in good moderate proportions. He is an unusual colour but this does not detract from his obvious qualities. RCC
- Gibbins’ OSTERFEN JANUS, unlucky to meet winner today because he is full of quality and breed type. The above comments apply. It was from this class I had realised that I had dogs who could have taken top honours.
- Wood’s ARDENCOTE WHAT A ROGUE
LD 18 2ab
- Wilton-Clark’s SHALFLEET HEATWAVE JW, lovely head & expression, good length of neck into well laid shoulder & correct return of UA. Good depth & infill of chest, correct ribbing & a loin that has a gentle rise. Good muscle tone to rear providing the strength of drive when moving.
- Dillon/Bailey’s STONEFOX ICE PICK WILLY AT RUNFOREST JW, well balanced angles fore & aft resulting in pleasing topline & underline. Good infill to front and depth of chest. Just preferred winner for soundness today.
- Smith/Coulter STONEFOX MEAN MR MUSTARD
OD 15 6ab
- Richards’ RICHCLASS RUN FOR COVER, he didn’t need to ‘run for cover’ today as he strode into the spotlight. He struck me for his overall moderate shape & balance, in beautiful condition & handled to perfection he epitomised my interpretation of the breed standard. It was my pleasure to award him the CC & I understand his 3rd.
- Perkins’ CH SILKRIDGE JUST JOEY, another in super condition, well balanced angles providing the soundness of movement. Lovely top & underline well held in profile movement.
- Johnston/Wilson’s CH AARMINIAS DRAGON LORD OF DANLUKE
O RACING/COURSING 6
- Manners/Mcdonald’s PENBRIAR JET SETTER TO SOLENTWAVES naf
- Manners/Glasspool’s PENBRIAR DARK SECRET AT MANNERPOOL littermate to winner and with the construction & muscle that will support his ‘job of work’
- Yeates/ Winter’s ZORADEN BRIGHT STAR
