The Whippet Club Open Show 23 September 2017 – Bitch Critique

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge bitches here today, and special thanks to my two stewards for keeping me organised. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and I had an enjoyable half an hour with my co-judge Gill Andrews discussing the merits of both our winners and we were pleased to agree on all the major awards.

It was lovely to start the afternoon off with the Veterans. Two super classes of elderly ladies enjoying their day out – nothing to do with sausages of course!

One that you really need to get your hands on to appreciate. Best Veteran Bitch but had to give way to her son on movement today for BVIS
  • 2nd: Walker’s Shoalingam Silver Willow. 11 year old lady who is now showing her age, but still has lovely dark eyes with a kind and alert expression.
  • 3rd: Neale’s Stormalong Black Narcissus

Minor Puppy Bitch (8)

Two very promising puppies headed this class, both of correct size, nice shape and with good bone. I shall watch their future with interest.

  • 1st: Reed & Pace’s Dejare Dutch Dream. Oozed quality, super depth of chest with lovely underline. Elegant long neck leading into well laid back shoulders. Strong hindquarters with correct bend of stifle. Moved with drive and enthusiasm keeping her stride long and low. Was delighted to award her Best Puppy Bitch and with my Co Judge agreed that she should be Best Puppy in Show.
  • 2nd: Courtney’s Courtbirch Diamond Dust. Another elegant bitch yet muscular and strong although not moving as well today as I know she can.
  • 3rd: Becquet & Derby’s Gazenorth Secret Escape to Becscott
  • 4th: Wignall’s Starswift Save a Prayer
  • 5th: Bunney’s Starswift Since Yesterday with Bunehug

Puppy Bitch (3)

  • 1st: Fisher’s Marleben Dream Mover. A lovely quality puppy on the taller side at the moment but still one to watch. Beautiful head and expression, neat feet, good spring of pastern and moved well.
  • 2nd: Reed & Pace’s Southgrove It’s My World at Dejare (Imp Ndl). Very feminine bitch built on smaller lines but still balanced with good bone.
