Fun Day

FUN DAY REPORT

At the request of The Italian Greyhound Club, The Whippet Club and the IGC combined to present the 2013 Fun Day, on Saturday August 10th.

This proved to be an excellent move all round, with lots of Whippet and Italian Greyhound lovers sharing their interests in one another’s breeds.

After a relatively slow start, all the various activities soon got well under way, with the Obedience competition, and the Have a Go Agility proving very popular.

Throughout the day, we saw dogs running as fast as possible in the Fastest Recall competition.

Another item running almost all day was the Kennel Cub Good Citizens Bronze Award Testing, from which some delighted owners walked away with their certificate and rosette.

During a break in proceedings for the Good citizen scheme, a Fun Dog Show was held, with both Whippets and Italian Greyhounds gaining top honours in various classes.

Both the Italian Greyhound Club and J.R. Whippet Rescue did very brisk business on their respective stalls, selling all kinds of canine related goods.

Very brisk business transpired on the Raffle front, and both clubs are grateful to all those who kindly donated prizes.

As is customary, Di Churchill was present in the kitchen, providing us with superb catering.

Arrangements had been made for a Fire Engine, from Reading Fire Station, to attend, for any youngsters to gain first-hand experience of the inside of a Fire Engine and its contents – a committee member of The Italian Greyhound Club is a Fire Fighter at nearby Windsor Fire Station, and she organised the visit. Unfortunately, the crew was called out on an emergency, and so arrived quite a bit later than expected. However, it was possible to get some pictures of some of the visitors present, posing in front of the Engine, and some of the burly Fire Fighters were to be seen holding little Italian Greyhounds in their arms – obviously completely smitten by them.

The main prizes, of dog food, were kindly donated by, and sponsored by, Arden Grange, to whom we are extremely grateful for their continued support.

The following is one of many congratulatory messages received:

Hi Sheila

I meant to write to you before regarding the Whippet Fun Day this year.  I just wanted to thank everyone who put such time and effort into a delightful day out for us all.  Zephyr had great fun remembering how much he used to enjoy agility, and loved being his usual naughty self in the obedience ring too.  The whole day was so relaxed and friendly, and it was particularly lovely to see some other hound breeds there too, including some fabulous borzois and of course lots of delightful Italian Greyhounds too.  Sitting there in the sunshine chatting with old friends, reminded me why I love a day out with dogs and their people so much.

Hope you raised lots of money and many thanks again to everyone concerned.

Kind regards,

Beth
