Critique – Limited Show 21 January 2023

The Whippet Club

I would like to thank the committee of The Whippet Club for inviting me to judge your limited show, it really was a privilege. I would also like to thank my two stewards for the day who kept me on track and the ring running very proficiently. Lastly, I would like to thank all the exhibitors who entered your lovely whippets and made the effort on a cold and foggy Saturday morning. I was overjoyed with the entry and your support and I really enjoyed the opportunity to appreciate your dogs.

Minor Puppy Dog (1,0)

  1. Webber’s Lolani Ride A Wild Trail.
7 month old brindle. Even though this boy was on his own in this class, he stood out and was a joy to go over. He is good for size and has a lovely overall shape and balance. Lovely head and neck, leading into well laid shoulders, correct return of upper arm and good fill in front. Good width and bend of stifle without being over exaggerated. Lovely top & underlines giving a flowing outline. His movement was free flowing and sound fore and aft. I had no hesitation in awarding him BPD & BPIS.

Puppy Dog (3,0)

  1. Saxby’s Sandspring Sea Master.
11 month old fawn & White Trim. Nice quality with good coat and skin. Nice head and neck with good lay of shoulder but would like more return of upper arm. Good topline and underline and good in rear. Sound moving in profile and good moving away, but slightly narrow in front coming towards.
  2. Mycroft’s Supeta’s Just Do It NAF TAF.
11 month old. Handler did have a tendency to overstretch this fawn & white parti boy. He has a good overall shape, again would prefer a little more return of upper arm. Good topline and underline with strong rear. Movement was OK – albeit, a little narrow behind.
  3. Southwick’s Woolford Douglas.

Junior Dog (4,1)

  1. Barnes’s Doddridge Caught My Eye.
Fawn & white parti who stood out in this class. Good overall shape and balance, good lay of shoulder, return of upper arm, good pasterns and deep chest giving a nice fill in front. Smooth flowing topline leading into strong rear with good width of thigh and nice bend of stifle. In profile he had good reach and drive whilst holding his topline but could be a little wide in front when coming towards.
  2. Bunney’s Bunehug Let It Be Me.
Fawn of nice quality. Good overall shape, flowing lines and balance. Nice head and expression, good shoulders and return of upper arm and deep chest giving plenty of heart room. Good topline and tuck up, flowing into nicely angled rear with good width of thigh and well let down hocks. Good in profile movement, holding his topline but a little narrow coming towards.

Excellent return of upper arm with legs set well under body and elbows tucked in. Good bend of pastern with tight and neat feet. Deep chest and good topline and underline which he held on the move. Good bend of stifle, well muscled thigh and second thigh. In profile, his movement was free and easy with long and low in front with good reach and drive from the rear showing great propelling power, sound back & forth. Delighted to award him BD & RBIS.
  2. Seviour’s Evaluna Leave Your Hat On With Kawrsing.
Brindle White Trim. Nice head and expression, good strong jaw with correct bite. Lovely neck and shoulders and return of upper arm, but a little upright in pastern.
