The Whippet Club Championship Show, 4th April 2026: Dog Critique

Whippet Club Championship Show Dog winners line up

Judge: Dawn Mason

Many thanks to The Whippet Club for inviting me to judge this prestigious show, I was made most welcome with two very good stewards who kept the ring in order and running efficiently so thanks must go to them.

I was looking for a shapely masculine male, without being heavy and big, not exaggerated in any way. Long, low effortless gait with extension and drive, keeping the top line on the move, in my principle winners I did find this.

There were some that were lovely in profile but on the move were either close behind or not quite correct in front.
My observation on the day was, we are certainly losing breed type in males, many upright in pastern, and very long in 2nd thigh. Many were close behind on the move.

There were those who were not the type I was looking for but could appreciate the quality.

I have to say a big thank you to the exhibitors for entering your dogs and taking my decisions in a sportsman like manner, this is what our hobby is about, the enjoyment of being in the ring with our best four legged friends, a placing is a bonus.
