Bitch Critique – Whippet Club Championship Show, 1st April 2023

Championship Show April 2023 Winners Line Up

I was thrilled to be invited to judge the bitches at our ‘mother’ show. It is one of my favourite shows with such a friendly atmosphere and many old friends.

Many friends hopefully not taking my decisions to heart. It really is a ruthless task when you are in the middle of that ring. Saying that, I was very happy with my final decisions with some lovely bitches in my final line up.
On the negative side I did find one overshot mouth and a couple with those double fused teeth. Also a couple of untypical heads. A very few were in soft condition which makes me worry about their lifestyles. Fronts are still needing to be improved and well done to those who are producing good ones as it is not so easy to change.
Finally I must add a big thank you to you all for your wonderful entry and to the hard working committee putting on a grand show.

Special Veteran Bitch (7-9 yrs) (5)

  1. McConkey’s Barmoll Bag O’Tricks. A real treat to go over this still fit and quality brindle. Correct with so typical and correct head. Smooth but toned under the hand. Balanced front to rear angulation and possessing pleasing curves. Moved well with ease.
  2. Mycroft’s Ch.Shiny Sensations Spirit Of Love For Supeta. Another really quality veteran. Brindle and white. Correct size with appealing head. Good front fill and depth to chest with deep brisket and flowing over top line. Again balanced in outline. Moved soundly.
  3. Julian’s Blondes Be Happy JW

Special Veteran (10yrs+)

  1. Bray’s Cyangrange Giacomo Delfino. What a delight to see this red fawn 10 year old girl out on the circuit again. I fully expected to put Ch. in front of her name but sadly not there. Forever a show girl she certainly is still able to strut her stuff around the ring. She has substance in the correct amount and ideal size with moderate angulations and curves in the correct places. As stated moved in style and soundly around the ring.
  2. Jones’ Welstar Heaven sent. Quality coated fawn who is more of the old school whippet, built on moderate lines and very smooth to go over. Showed her easy movement on the go round.
  3. Mulcair Meerkat Marble JW ShCM

MPB

  1. Barne’s Doddridge Strictly Cha Cha. 7 month blue brindle. What a delightful little character she is and with an extrovert character. She is so pleasing to the eye. Sweet feminine head with good length of neck. Smooth over the shoulders and deep body. Super balance for age and nothing exaggerated. Easy daisy cutting action and tracked up perfectly in profile. BPB and BPIS
  2. Head’s Demerlay Ebony Eyes. 6 month old striking in colour and stance. Black brindle with white trim. Very immature at this time needing to mature in top line and in the up and back but still takes the eye. Will be very interested as to how she matures.
  3. Shalfleet Chilli Cracker

PB

  1. Roger’s Wentvalley Divine Diva. Dark 10 month old brindle with white trim who is very pleasing with a smooth and shapely outline. Lovely head with a strong under jaw and tight rose shaped ears. Front well angulated with front legs well under her and pasterns with enough spring. Strong back end with strong second thigh. Moved well.
  2. Head’s Harmonia Alberta Of Demerlay. Almost 9 month old mature and strongly made fawn again with well made head. Very shapely in body and strong in hind quarters and second thigh with correct flat bone. Movement still untidy but much better in profile.
  3. Johnston & Wilson’s Danluke Don’t I know It

JB

  1. Longhurst’s Abbeyhurst Dancing Queen. Blue fawn, very much my type with lots of potential. She was stacked to her best by her handler. Super head with strong under jaw. Well muscled long arched neck. Smooth over shoulders and continuing up over her top line and down to her strong toned thighs. Her brisket is deep and runs up to a good tuck up. So sound in movement. And keeping her top line on the move. Please try not to over show her and make her stale.
  2. Whitehead,Smith & Mixide’s Citycroft Seattle. This pale fawn bitch has the most beautiful outline. Quite strong in build. Lovely head and eyes outlined in black. Super fine coat and in top condition. Moved energetically but not so true on the up and back.
  3. Mrs A M & Mr L Sampson’s Dapperdiva Milk And Honey

YB

  1. Gillespie’s Penbriar Beewitched. Elegant black bitch with smooth typey outline. She has a pretty and feminine head with strong under jaw. Long neck into sloping shoulders. Well filled chest down through straight front and deep brisket following into neat and curvy tuck up. Well knuckled feet. Toned in muscle. Skin and coat are super fine. Moved soundly.
  2. Mason’s Veredon Laurent Perrier For Aphrael. Stronger build than winner. This pale fawn possessed a pleasing balanced outline. Typical head with strong under jaw. Long neck down to well filled front. Deep and well sprung and length of ribcage. She has well muscled loin down to muscled thigh. Moved soundly.
  3. Jones’ Jothryn Black Eyed Blond

MB

  1. Smith’s Warrior Bee. Another feminine black typey bitch. Filled front with depth to brisket and shapely tuck up. Smooth rise over loin and toned thighs. Her coat was like silk and she moved soundly.
  2. Hill’s Shimmeree Calico Cupid. Blue with typey head. Her neck flows into good front. Well sprung deep rib. Well knuckled feet with slight spring of pasterns. Balanced in angulations. Would prefer less fall away of top line.
  3. Saxby’s Handspring Sea Coral

Novice Bitch

  1. Gillespie’s Penbriar Beewitched
  2. Home & Fisher-Home’s Jasarat Caramel Calypso. Feminine fawn girl with pleasing virtues and shapely outline which she began to show me after a while as she was rather tense at the start of her performance. Quite immature still and I am sure there is more to come.
  3. Falconer’s Kuriwao Serrafina Star

UB

  1. Longhurst’s Abbeyhurst Dancing Queen
  2. Palmik Truth About Love. Lovely type. Pale fawn bitch with strength and elegance. Attractive head , long neck deep through and strong behind. She stands over ample ground and moves soundly. The only thing that I would like to see more of is shape over the loin standing and moving and have my fingers crossed that this will develop with maturity and she will be nigh perfect.
  3. Lawley’s Say No More

PGB

  1. Salkeld’s Crosscop A Dream Come True. Fawn with attractive head and length of neck. Compact with substance with curves in the right places. In fit condition and moved sound and easily.
  2. Home & Fisher-Home’s Jasarat Gin Fizz. Fawn lighter build to first. Not looking too happy to be here today sadly. Feminine head and shapely through body. Finest coat and in good fit condition. Moved soundly.
  3. Woodward’s Brochinbelle Joyride At Hinxwood.

MLB

  1. Howlett & Kruger’s Burqa Di Gucci At White Squall JW (Imp It). Another proper little show girl. Scopey golden brindle parti coloured. Sweet head with soft expression. Long neck leading into good length of body with length and spring of ribcage. Softly curving over top line. Move with energy and soundly.
  2. Jones’ Danluke Drag On A Dime JW. Very feminine and petite but with substance. A red brindle with curvaceous and balanced outline. She moved straight and easily around the ring.
  3. Allisstone’s Hergehill With Bells On

LB

  1. Morris, Waddle, Mycroft & Mrs L Mycroft’s Crosscop Candle In The Wind To Supeta. A fawn bitch that I have admired the few times that I have seen her in the ring and she really filled my expectations. Super type plus quality with correct size, balanced and correct whippet shape. Beautifully presented in fit condition she moved energetically and soundly. Res CC
  2. Wood’s Crosscop She’s A Lady. Another fawn, very smart quality girl. Similar comments to the winner but not quite so curvy in outline. Moved soundly and easily around the ring.
  3. Smith & Coulter’s Collooney At Last.

OB

  1. Mr D G Short & Mrs Y L Short’s Ch.Collooney Dita Von Tease. Just loved the scope and depth of this brindle girl. Enjoyed the feel of her continuing smoothness when running my hands over her. There were no lumps or bumps in the joins over her body, so smooth. Front and rear angulations complimented each other. Her front legs held well underneath her. Muscled down to her second thigh finishing with low set hocks and using them to propel her to such an easy long and low ground covering stride. CC & BIS
  2. Morris, Waddel, Mycroft & Mitchell’s Crosscop Just What I need. Blue fawn with white trim girl that I have admired for some time wishing she were mine to breed from.(aptley named I see). Different style to the winner with less top line and lighter through. Smart looking and admirable free and sound movement.
  3. Mr D G Short & Mrs Y L Short’s Collooney Bit On The Side.

Open Racing and Coursing

I thought that the first two bitches were good enough to show in the regular classes. Well done to the two young girls handling the first two. Good job!

  1. Mrs A M & Mr L Sampson’s Shiny Sensations For Your Eyes Only. Pretty, well made, smooth and balanced brindle girl who was an easy and sound mover.
  2. Soffe’s Penbriar Rocket Star. Very similar critique to one but preferred the head of the first.
